Mother’s Day: Bring the Hotel Experience Home
ROOM SERVICE
Take it up a notch:
Let mom sleep in while you get to work in the kitchen in stealth mode
Flowers! They instantly brighten up a room so pick some up from the nearest market
*Scouted tip: Arrange them on the table as a centerpiece or in a few smaller vases or mason jars
OR on a breakfast tray if brunch-in-bed is in your plans. Also, it’s peony season. If you see em, grab em!
Pull out the fancy plates and give mom a homemade card (and the newspaper) to read while having her coffee or tea
Don’t let mom lift a finger after her meal. That is one of the biggest perks of staying at a hotel, isn’t it?
Arrange for "housekeeping" (ie your sib or dad) to tidy up the bedroom while mom is enjoying brunch. Check out 5 Star Tips below for how to get the perfect hotel bed.
ITINERARY
Here are the top 5 picks of moms we polled in case you’re not sure what to do:
Go for a family bike ride
Go for a long walk in a park
*Scouted tip: for anyone with access to a car, a spot in another area or outside the city will really make mom feel like she’s on vacation
Take an hour to do a fun streaming workout
*Scouted tip: Set this up for mom with a mat and glass of water. Better yet, do it with her!
Give mom a massage or footrub
*Scouted tip: Think hotel spa here. Choose a relaxing setting and cue up a zen playlist. For a seriously memorable touch, warm up mom’s favorite oil or lotion in a ramekin and light a scented candle (like this exclusive Edition candle made by Le Labo) before you begin.
Movie Night - mom’s choice!
5 STAR TIPS
Advance Check-in: If you want to build excitement and create suspense for mom, write an email from the "hotel" in advance and send it to mom to see if she has any special preferences for her day. If you prefer to make it a complete surprise, skip this step.
Welcome Letter from “Management”: Slip a welcome note under the door for mom to wake up to on Mother’s Day. Print this snarky or this serious template or create your own.
The Bed: Our friends at The Edition Hotel insist that a five star hotel stay must include an inviting bed.
A few ways to accomplish this? Place a comfortable throw or robe neatly folded at the foot of the bed, slippers (or cozy socks) next to the bed, and of course fluff the pillows often!
Afternoon Tea: Around 4pm, take an “impromptu” break from what you’re doing to warm up tea and serve with cookies or a light snack.
Turn Down Service: The day’s almost over but there’s one more very important five star detail - turn down service! Refold or refresh all towels in the bathroom and organize any skincare products sitting on the counter. Fold down the bed covers, dim the lights and place a dark chocolate on mom’s freshly fluffed pillow. Fin!
